NaFFAA Nevada and Fil-Am in POWER Host 2024 Candidates’ Forum

Las Vegas, NV – September 13, 2024 — The National Federation of Filipino American Associations–Nevada (NaFFAA NV), in partnership with Filipino Americans in Political Organization With Equal Representation (Fil-Am in POWER), hosted its 2024 Candidates’ Forum at IMMIX +63FIFTY on Maryland Parkway.

The forum featured candidates running for congressional, mayoral, assembly, judicial, and other local offices, who shared their platforms and participated in a moderated Q&A session. The event served as an opportunity for direct dialogue between candidates and the Filipino American and broader AAPI communities.

“We are looking forward to hearing from the Congressional and Mayoral candidates, as well as several Assembly Candidates and Judges running for election or re-election. A moderated Q & A session will lend to an excellent opportunity for dialogue and understanding,” said Gloria T. Caoile, NaFFAA NV Senior Adviser and Director of Civic Engagement for APALA NV.

The forum was made possible through the support of the Asian Community Development Council (ACDC) and the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA). Organizers emphasized the importance of informed civic participation and community visibility ahead of the 2024 elections.

The event was well-attended, drawing a diverse audience of community members and leaders. Key organizers included Honorary Consul Amie Belmonte, NaFFAA NV President Jacqueline Peralta de Joya, and Gloria Caoile, who served as host.

Congresswoman Susie Lee opened the forum with remarks highlighting the significance of representation and active engagement in the democratic process.

Attendees had the opportunity to meet and interact with candidates seeking office in areas including U.S. Senate, Congress, mayoral positions, judiciary, and school boards.

The overarching message of the evening was clear: go out, vote, and vote wisely.
